Interdisciplinary teams will meet within the framework of the international forum organized by the FMT of the Consell de Mallorca to design efficient technological solutions to lead the tourism transformation of Mallorca.
Mallorca will be the scene of the first SDS Hackathon, on April 8. An event organized by the Mallorca Tourism Foundation and the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), framed in the events of the International Sustainable Tourism Summit 2022. Leading the transformation, Mallorca Sustainable Summit 2022, which will take place on April 7 and 8 in Mallorca, at the Palma Congress Palace.
The hackathon is a meeting aimed at professionals, researchers and students with an interest in and commitment to sustainability, who want to put their talent to the test by providing solutions to various problems in tourism in Mallorca. Thus, for one day, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and as a group, work will be done to create solutions to problems linked to the tourism and sustainability sectors.
Three major challenges: water, food and mobility
Participants will aim to create, develop and document a solution to these challenges:
Water Challenge: Create solutions for the use and management of water, as well as the control of losses and flows in the water cycle, both drinking water, regenerated water and waste water. Effective control of water is necessary given its great limitation on the island and its environmental impact.
Food Challenge: Create solutions, from technological to cooperative groups, together with appropriate public policies, to promote the adaptation of the agricultural and livestock sector, as well as traditional professions linked to the countryside, to the current market, especially related to the tourist environment.
Mobility Challenge: Create solutions to facilitate and optimize internal, island-continent and inter-island mobility by any means of transport, seeking maximum sustainability with minimum impact, thanks to the optimization of resources.
The working groups will be formed on the day of the event among the participants present and must be made up of five people. The organizing committee of the competition will be responsible for the composition of the teams. The prize money is a total of €15,000, €5,000 of which will be allocated to the winning team of each challenge, which will have to be divided equally among the team members.
Registration must be individual through the electronic registry of the Fundació Mallorca Turisme: https://fundaciomallorcaturisme.sedelectronica.es/info.0.
The SDS Hackathon is an opportunity to meet other professionals through networking and work on a project, sharing the process and taking advantage of new digital tools and technologies. During the exercise, collaborations will be encouraged and ideas will be promoted through the advice of mentors specialized in the subject, who will be available at all times to guide the teams to achieve maximum results, ensuring the prevalence of the cooperative, innovative and creative spirit.
